Kaleidoscopic Cephalopod

That’s right.

You may have seen the Psychedelic Squid link in my blogroll, and I’m sure you asked yourself, “Now what could that possibly mean?” The aforementioned site is a blog run by my good friend Psychedelic Squid, or, PSquid for short. We met during the GaminForCharity marathons, which I know have been mentioned on here before.

Anyway, his site is similar to mine in the sense that it’s filled with all sorts of random posts. It features a terrifying wonderful Silhouette Squid whose eyes see into your soul. Just recently he did a “Spring Break 7k” challenge. His goal was to post 500 words a day for fourteen days. He broke the rules a few times (scandal), but he was able to get it done. The subject of each post varied from Pokémon to Science! to toasters. Now that the challenge is over, PSquid is going to continue to post, so I recommend you get on over there and check for some new posts. You won’t regret it.

P.S. I swear, Silhouette Squid didn’t make me do this.

Everyday

I know I’ve mentioned how much I love “Everyday” by Carly Comando on this blog before. I decided a few days ago to try to teach myself how to play it on piano. The only problem is that I’ve never received any sort of instruction on how to play piano, so it was a bit of a challenge.

Anyway, I suppose I’m doing fairly well, and I can sorta play the beginning of the piece. I taped myself playing it earlier today (sorry about the terrible sound quality).

Let me know what you think in the comments.

Toadicus

As you can see, the site now has a new theme! While I certainly liked the previous theme, it just seemed too serious. It almost made me look “professional,” for lack of a better term. I suppose those aren’t bad things, but I’m not trying to be very serious around here, and that’s why I decided to try to make a theme that comes across as a little more fun.

The only major change (aside from the design, which is fairly obvious) is the addition of a Twitter widget in the header. Be sure to check up there for short/random updates that (usually) aren’t worth getting a full post of their own. My good friend Sponty was kind enough to give me the code for the Twitter widget, which he made himself. He also unknowingly named the toad seen in the logo. Sponty called me Toadicus one day, and I thought that was a good name for the gentlemanly toad.

Most of the coding is done, and the theme works (that’s a relief). However, I’m sure I’ll be making some changes over the next few days (and months, if it lasts that long) to make it better.

Gattaca

Allow me to start off by saying I was thoroughly impressed with Gattaca. Even though my viewing experience was interrupted by MEGAVIDEO (*glare*), I was able to finish the movie without any further interruptions. Below is a brief explanation of the general premise of the movie (without spoilers).

The movie takes place in the “not-too-distant future,” when genetic engineering is common. Your standing in the social system is essentially determined by your DNA. The main character, Vincent, has been given a life expectancy of 30.2 years, and he suffers from a heart condition (this classifies him as “in-valid”). His dream in life is to be an astronaut, but only a “valid” person can do this – Vincent must take on the guise of a “valid” person to achieve his dream.

The movie is very thought-provoking. It revolves around the idea of human perseverance, and doing everything you can to achieve your dreams. The music is phenomenal, and it really adds a lot to the tone of the movie. I highly recommend this movie to, well, anyone. GO WATCH IT.

“There is no gene for the human spirit.”

MEGAVIDEO is the Devil

Now is a very good time to write a blog entry. Would you like to know why I have the time to do so? I’ll tell you!

I was watching Gattaca on MEGAVIDEO. All of a sudden, seventy-two minutes into the movie, I get a HUGE message which states, “YOU HAVE WATCHED 72 MINUTES OF VIDEO TODAY – Please wait 60 minutes.” So now I’m sitting here waiting for the 60 minutes to be up so I can finish watching the movie. I do not approve.

Maybe I’ll write about the movie if I ever get to finish watching it.
